As you might know, I wear a lot of (deeply fabulous) hats – as well as running my own blog, I provide blogging services to other people (including writing and developing delicious recipes), coach on the subject of social media, and run #bathindiechat, a Twitter community for Bath’s brilliant independent businesses. We have regular online meet-ups (Mondays 9-10pm, find out more information here) but we also like to hang out in the real world, and last week we met up for a spectacular summer social at Cascara Café…
Cascara is the perfect place for a party – a bright, welcoming café spread over three floors, it feels a little bit like someone’s house, with plenty of plants and flowers, warm yellow paintwork, and funky artwork and wallhangings. During the day, Ana serves delicious juices and smoothies that cure pretty much all ills, as well as Colombian coffee and mouth-watering vegan and GF cakes, and for the night of our party she whipped up an amazing strawberry prosecco cocktail. To go with it, the fabulous Beth (aka The Free-Range Chef) created platters of delicious vegan goodies for us to nibble on – falafel with beetroot hummus, flatbreads topped with roasted vegetables, and my absolute favourite, pea fritters. And we had the lovely Lucy from Lucy Baker Photography to capture it all – it’s her brilliant photos that you can see in this post, and I can’t recommend her services enough!

The vibe was pretty chilled out – to be completely honest, I hate typical “networking” events where you have to present yourself to the room, or move on to the next person after 2 minutes, or play ice-breaking games. I don’t think they work all that well either – after all, networking is all about making connections and I think you’re much more likely to make good ones if you’re relaxed. So we keep it pretty informal at #bathindiechat networking events. We’re super welcoming too – the thing new people ask about most often is whether it’ll be all right to come on their own, so if you’re wondering about that, know that lots of people come by themselves and we always have a brilliant time.

I haven’t got the next social planned yet, but rest assured that there will be one very soon – so if you missed our fabulous summer party, then keep your eyes open for the next one! Just follow @bathindiechat on Twitter to keep up to date, and don’t forget that if you run or work for an independent business in Bath, you can tag me any time with your news, offers or events for a retweet.
