You all know how much I love to cook, but I have to confess that as lockdown goes on (and on, and on) I’m getting a bit fed up with my own cooking. I’m craving a really nice restaurant meal, and when I spotted The H’eggs Company’s beautiful fresh tortelli on Instagram, I immediately thought it would be the perfect way to recreate a meal out at home.
You can buy H’eggs Pasta in various online shops like Good Sixty, or you can do what I did and place an order for collection from their own little shop on Claremont Terrace. You can also just pop in to the shop and see what’s available that day (they sell plenty of different fresh pastas) but if you want to guarantee their gorgeous tortelli, then it’s best to order ahead. There are different flavours each day – you can find out what’s coming up on their Instagram here.
Once you know what you want, you simply message them on Instagram to place your order, and then pay on pick-up – each portion is £4 and contains 8 plump and perfect tortelli, so it’s a bit of a bargain in my opinion. We tried the Wild Mushroom & Parmesan Tortelli, which I served with a little homemade sage brown butter, and it was absolutely delicious – just the thing for a little restaurant-quality food at home, plus with just 3 minutes of cooking required, it couldn’t be easier.
Luca from H’eggs was also kind enough to gift us some of their spirulina fusilli to try as well – the addition of the spirulina (which is a type of algae) turns the fresh pasta a gorgeous deep, forest green, and not only makes it very pretty but rather good for you too (it’s packed with plenty of healthy nutrients). It didn’t add anything to the flavour, as far as I could tell, but I didn’t mind that because instead the fusilli simply tasted like the best fresh handmade pasta I’ve had. We served it up with a little homemade wild garlic pesto, mozzarella and baby plum tomatoes, and it was summer in a bowl.
If, like me, you’re craving something a bit different, I highly recommend you try some pasta from the chaps at H’eggs – so easy to cook at home, and full of heavenly flavours. I’ve got my eye on their fresh crab tortelli now, so I’m definitely going to be back…
Full disclosure: I ordered and paid for my tortelli as a regular customer, but when I went to pick it up, Luca kindly offered me some fusilli to try too. As always, even if I’m gifted items, I’ll never recommend anything I don’t genuinely love.
